If you're an independent artist and just getting started, this is more or less the creative process:
Create an instrumental (either purchased or produce on your own)
Write and record lyrics
Create a visual (preferably a music video, but cover image is fine)
Share and promote
My first music video -> CL KID - Take Me On
That is a simplified list of one project. As an artist, you are a business. If you are going to take your music seriously you need to make sure you do the following IN ADDITION to the above process:
Copyright (copyright.gov/)
Distribution (distrokid.com/)
Artist/Songwriting Royalty claims (bmi.com/)
Publishing and other Royalties, both in your country and international (songtrust.com/) & (soundexchange.com/)
Create an LLC under your artist name
Open a seperate bank account under that LLC
*The above steps are companies which handle each of these processes. There are many other companies that can do so as well. These are ones which I use personally and recommend, however do your research and see which best fits YOU.
